1893 Isabella Commemorative Quarter MS61 NGC
The 1893 Isabella Commemorative Quarter is a notable piece of U.S. numismatic history. This coin was the first commemorative quarter issued by the United States Mint, created for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago to honor Queen Isabella of Spain, who funded Christopher Columbus's voyage to the New World. At that time these souvenir quarters were sold for $1.
1893 Isabella Quarter F/VF
The obverse of the Isabella Quarter features a portrait of Queen Isabella, designed by Charles E. Barber and the reverse is a kneeling femal with distaff and spindle emblematic of women's industry. With a low mintage of 24,214 coins with a grade of MS61 are relatively low. In Mint State (MS)61 condition, the coin is uncirculated but has some noticeable marks and diminished luster. It signifies a coin with a fair amount of small, scattered marks, potentially some scratches or scuff marks, and a luster that may be dull or only moderately bright.
